New Etsy Shop

This year is my 7th year as a craftsman. Since last year I have been developing the skills needed to make flame painted copper jewelry. All the colors come from the small but very hot flame from a small torch using propane and oxygen. You can control the color to some degree, but other factors such as humidity, copper thickness and size and your function on that particular day come into play.

I make a lot of smaller items such as earrings, pins and pendants and am developing some larger unique pieces. Having said that, every design, large or small has unique features about it. No two are the same. Earrings are not 100% exact copies but are close enough that they look closely related.

Ear Cuff Designs in 14K Rose Gold 

I have added some new designs that are made of 14K Rose Gold Filled Wire and beads. The gold does not flake off and has a soft pink color to it. As I write this, in Southeastern Pennsylvania we are heading into week 4 of our required social distancing as we endeavor to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus. My craft show events have been cancelled for the immediate future and who knows how long that will last. 

Selling ear cuffs in particular you have to get 'up close and personal' with every customer, especially since they like to try them on. As a fellow crafter friend of mine said, "It's not like you can sit at the back your booth and just should out features about what you sell!"

For all our sakes, let's hope this rectifies itself by the second half of this year (although that may be wishful thinking). 2018 Upcoming Events and New Items

Events for 2018 are pretty much set, most of the shows taking part in the second half of the year. 

You can visit me in Bethlehem PA, Montauk NY, Columbia MD, Chester NJ, Dulles VA and Gatlinburg TN to name a few. Visit the full schedule at elegantearcuffs.com. It's a great opportunity to see the country and the network of fellow crafters always give me lots of laughs and when things get tough, shoulders to lean on.

When you find a good show, you want to go back, and so I want to ensure I have a new and yet still unique selection of creations; so I'm branching out beyond ear cuffs.  This will be a slow evolving process to give myself time to enhance new skills while I keep my ear cuff designs available.

Below is an example from the copper pendant design collection. The octopus was sculpted with polymer clay, then electroformed in copper (layers of copper build over the design using copper, a special solution and electrical current) and finished with a turquoise patina to complete the design.

Breathe New Life into your Jewelry with a Re-Design

Some years ago I purchased a necklace from a local artisan that was made of pale green agate stones interspersed with emerald green round crystals. I liked the pale stones but couldn't quite make it work with anything I wore. Last year I decided to disassemble the necklace and re-design it into a set of coordinating necklace and ear cuffs. I set aside the emerald green crystals for another time and focused on the agate stones, accenting them with sterling silver balls, Czech crystal beads and tiny Japanese Miyuki beads. For the ear cuffs I used the smaller agate stones and the same combination of accenting beads. I liked the contrast of the cool green and the warm browns and gold tones of the smaller beads. What do you think?

Elegant EarCuffs by Fiona is at Christkindlmarkt in Bethlehem, PA, Nov-Dec 2016

Christkindlmarkt is one of the Top 5 Christmas festivals in the nation. I am thrilled to be a part of this event which, in addition to retailers and artisans like myself, also features ice sculpting, Christmas entertainment, festive delights to eat and drink, carol singers and of course, Santa Claus. Most of the event is held inside huge tents/canopies, so don't worry about the weather.

There is a different layout this year. In the past retailers were in one tent and artisans and the stage with entertainment were in the other. This year there are 3 tents. As you enter, the first has buy/sell vendors. The second and third tents have hand crafted items from folks like myself. You can visit the Artsquest website for details on directions, artisans, pricing (great discount on seasonal pass) and more.

I'm in Booth 112 in the 2nd tent, along with Santa Claus.  (I wonder if Mrs Claus would like some ear cuffs ??)

I'm having a lot of fun showing ladies how to wear ear cuffs. They are comfortable, secure, and the perfect gift for anyone who can't wear pierced earrings because of allergies, or torn or split ear hole piercings.

I've been working on some new designs, especially to promote the Autumn colors, and am getting ready for the Holiday buying season.  Here are a few of my new designs:

Of course, no pierced ears are needed. They're comfortable to wear and a protective coating prevents the sterling silver and polished copper from tarnishing, and there's no skin sensitivity.

Elegant EarCuffs by Fiona was recently accepted into Etsy Wholesale, a marketplace where independent retailers can discover unique products from vetted artists and designers. Retailers can select from an expansive pool of items ad connect directly with sellers, view site web-based line sheets, and submit purchase orders. Proof of a business establishment is required as wholesale pricing is offered and orders must meet volume dollar requirements.

I am very excited about this move forward in my business. There are many ladies who choose not to or cannot wear traditional ear jewelry, and these are a comfortable and elegant alternative.
